Business Intelligence Leader Looks to Idiom WorldServer and XMetaL DITA to Accelerate Delivery of New Website Content and Product Materials to International Partners and Customers

Idiom(R) Technologies, Inc. (Idiom), the leading independent provider of scalable software solutions for accelerating and optimizing globalization initiatives, today announced that Business Objects, the world's leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, has selected the Idiom WorldServer(TM) globalization platform integrated with XMetaL to improve performance and time-to-market for translated and localized content across the company. WorldServer was selected for its ease-of-integration with Interwoven TeamSite Web Content Management software, centralized translation memory and terminology management capabilities, and ability to ensure brand integrity and consistent messaging with Business Objects' partners and customers around the world. XMetaL was chosen for its best in class support of the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) XML standard.

"As Business Objects continues to grow worldwide, we are focused on streamlining localization efforts and also maintaining the consistency of our brand globally throughout all external communication," said Paul Brownsey, localization manager at Business Objects. "Idiom WorldServer is a solid software platform with proven translation memory and business process automation features that will help improve team productivity and content quality, while decreasing time-to-market."

Expanding Business Objects' Reach with Global Partners and Customers

Business Objects will first leverage WorldServer for content localization associated with the company's global websites. Business Objects currently offers access to product and service information in 13 languages. Currently, all content published on Business Objects' website runs through Interwoven TeamSite. WorldServer is able to detect changes within the Web Content Management system and ensure those changes are accurately translated, context is maintained and updates are rapidly deployed to the appropriate pages.

WorldServer will also be used for translation and localization of Business Objects' technical documentation in support of new product launches and expanded adoption of its business intelligence solutions in new markets. Business Objects currently provides documentation in 10 languages and needs to be able to add new languages easily. By reducing time-to-market of multilingual content, WorldServer will help Business Objects accelerate localizing content related to product launches.

Business Objects is also leveraging DITA XML authoring capabilities from Idiom partner XMetaL, a Justsystems company and the global leader in XML content creation and collaboration solutions. Business Objects is the first joint customer for Idiom and XMetaL, and this news underscores the early success of their partnership.

Through integration with XMetaL Author DITA Edition, WorldServer will also aid Business Objects' migration from SGML to a topic-based approach that includes user documentation production and management. With its support of the DITA standard, XMetaL and WorldServer will help Business Objects reuse content and publish documentation in a number of formats including PDF, HTML and online help, which can then be released on product CDs, the printed page or extranet support sites. Use of WorldServer can be expanded to support localization of software user interfaces as well as training and services support materials such as whitepapers and knowledgebase articles.

"The robust functionality of WorldServer will help Business Objects address its globalization needs today, and into the future. Idiom understands Business Objects' globalization objectives and the importance of achieving productivity goals, without sacrificing quality," said Dave Rosenlund, vice president, marketing and new business development, Idiom Technologies. "The ability of WorldServer to provide valuable translation memory and process automation capabilities, while maintaining and nurturing brand values, makes Idiom a strategic globalization partner that is deeply committed to helping its customers succeed."

"Business Objects' decision to adopt DITA addresses their need to reuse content and publish efficiently in multiple output formats," said Paul Wlodarczyk, vice president of content lifecycle solutions at Justsystems. "Authoring and managing content as DITA topics helps Business Objects to reuse their multilingual content, needing to translate only net new content, then rendering it into multiple output formats."
