Meeting JoAnn Hackos

JoAnn Hackos invited me to the reception at the opening of her DITA Boot Camp in Wakefield, MA last  week.

It was a privilege to meet the contributor of so many methods and techniques to the field of technical writing, including minimalism and single-source publishing.

JoAnn invited me to take part in the work of her OASIS Technical Committees for DITA, including Indexing and Translation.

We discussed CM Pros and future Summits in connection with JoAnn’s Content Management Strategies conferences.

I went out to dinner with JoAnn, her husband Bill, who like me has a Ph.D. in Astronomy, and Lovonya Thomas, their administrative assistant. We had a wide-ranging conversation.

On Thursday, I went with JoAnn to a special presentation at XyEnterprise of their XPP publishing, Content@ management, and XMeTaL editing in the newest version integrating the DITA Open Toolkit. Kevin Duffy, XyEnterprise CEO, and Sean Angus, Sales Manager, did the demos for a very inquisitive group of Boot Camp attendees.
