We're looking for a DITA XML architect to help guide us through our next 5 years of working in DITA. We've been in DITA for a number of years now, and need someone to take over the role of "department DITA expert".

As DITA architect, you will apply a strong understanding of XML/DITA to support the implementation of DITA strategies across Information Engineering. You will use your knowledge of XML/DITA to develop and deliver models for new topics and output types. You will implement information design strategies in DITA. You will be expert in XML/DITA standards in the technical communication industry. You will develop, document, and design DITA standards for the organization. You will support organizational personnel in troubleshooting DITA issues during the documentation design and publication process.

You will collaborate across groups in the organization including project leads, information architects, editors, and tools personnel to assess new requirements. You will work with tools personnel and the department architect to define system requirements and changes needed to support new information design strategies. You will lead the testing efforts to approve system changes impacting the DITA writing environment.

The successful individual in this role will be an XML/DITA expert who is comfortable working as an individual contributor and as a member or lead of a team.

Essential functions include:

• Interface with Information Engineering (IE) architects (departmental and Business Unit), editors, Customer Program Manager, Information Engineering Program Manager, and tools personnel to develop and implement DITA architecture designs that support information solutions with the greatest possible efficiency and quality for all of IE.

• Work with personnel across the organization to troubleshoot DITA issues during the documentation lifecycle. Monitor queue of active issues via the IE Tools ticketing system.

• As needed, review and assess new versions of DITA standards from OASIS. Define and document new standards, policies,and best practices that would enhance/improve NetApp's current use of DITA. Update existing standard, policies, and best practices as needed. Work with IE staff as needed to organize and manage implementation of agreed-upon changes. Provide input to OASIS DITA standards. Function as IE's primary interpreter of the OASIS DITA specification, especially regarding usage of DITA elements and attributes. Adjudicate DITA coding disputes.

• Define, develop, and maintain DITA training materials. Provide DITA instruction to departmental personnel as needed. Provide feedback to staff and managers regarding staff members' progress in learning and using DITA.

• Assess effectiveness of tool changes impacting the DITA writing environment. Develop test plan, managing testing efforts, and report results. Track and monitor system bugs through closure.

• May consult with other NetApp departments moving to DITA or considering a move to DITA, providing high-level guidance regarding DITA resources and IE's experience working in DITA.
