“PRACTICAL DITA – SECOND EDITION” PUBLISHED

Easy-to-read guide offers technical writers an introduction to DITA,

an XML-based architecture for technical information

(South Plainfield, NJ - September 26, 2009) – Mr. Julio Vazquez, who was a member of IBM’s corporate team that defined the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) and wrote the first article about the topic in April, 2002, has published the second edition of the popular introduction to writing with DITA – Practical DITA. The book provides the technical communication community with a much needed “Beginner’s guide” to the increasingly popular XML architecture for authoring, producing, and delivering technical information.

The book provides strategies for success when writing with DITA by describing the planning and task decomposition processes needed for clarity in DITA topics. The new version includes new diagrams and graphics in order explain the concepts and eliminates the need for the reader to know any XML.

Mr. Vazquez is currently employed by SDI Global Solutions, a Division of Systems Documentation, inc. (SDI), in Durham, NC as an information architect and he has been a noted presenter at the STC-Carolina, DITA East and TechComm conferences. He is known in the technical communications community as a staunch DITA advocate and he regularly provides educational seminars on the topic.

The author of Managing Authors, Richard Hamilton, said “I think Practical DITA is a useful book for readers who want to dip their toes into the DITA stream and get started.” JoAnn Hackos, PhD., who is the Director of the Center for Information-Management Development noted that Practical DITA, “Provides a nice, compact starting point for writers who want to understand how DITA works.”
