Abstract:

In this next session in the DITA 1.2 webinar series, Hal Trent of Comtech Services will discuss how the Constraints Mechanism has been implemented in the DITA 1.2 specification and how it can be leveraged to add greater authoring controls without specializing the DITA DTDs.

Hal will discuss the constraint mechanism:

  • to show how an organization could remove domains (DITA elements not needed by a group) in the DITA framework from the DTDs without specialization
  • as it is being applied to the DITA 1.2 general task to create the DITA 1.2 strict task (DITA 1.1 task)
  • in terms of best practices when implementing constraints in a current DITA environment and some of the potential ramifications between using a unconstrained and constrained DTD in the same authoring environment
