New Browser-based DITA Solution: DITA Exchangeâ„¢

HELLO DITA COMMUNITY: WEBINAR INVITATION!

Year 2007 marks the solution of the biggest challenge for DITA: How to enable people with little or no XML and DITA knowledge to write DITA Topics and compose DITA Maps.

As of February 1st 2007, it will be possible to extend the number of DITA-writers (content contributors) in your organization. Using a forms-based web interface, you will now be able to write, edit and store your DITA content in a central repository.

ALL CONTENT CONTRIBUTORS CAN WRITE DITA CONTENT

With the DITA Exchange™ solution from Content Technologies, it will be possible for every non-XML and non-DITA writer to write and store DITA content in Microsoft SharePoint 2007 Server.

Once the DITA content is stored, reviewed, approved and translated, it is ready for publishing. DITA Exchange™ comes with a number of easy-to-edit “templates” that can be changed to fit your corporate identity. Publishing PDF-files, on-line-help files and/or simply exporting DITA-files to be processed in other tools is as easy as pushing a button.

SMALL, MEDIUM AND LARGE COMPANIES

DITA Exchange™ can be used by the small company with only a few writers (because of a flexible price structure) over medium-sized companies with sophisticated publishing needs to global companies with temporary staff working across time-zones and departments.

Should you require workflow-management, user-authentication, records-management, web- or print publishing – it is all included…

SPECIAL FOR DITA-SPECIALISTS

Once the DITA content is stored in the CMS repository (SharePoint), the DITA XML content can be edited using FrameMaker, Epic, XMetal or any other special XML tool you prefer. You simply access the SharePoint repository from your preferred interface and open, edit or publish the topic (or map).

This combines the best of two worlds (1) allowing the non-DITA-specialist to contribute with relevant content and (2) allow the DITA-specialists to refine, clean-up and publish according to the company policy.

DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS

The DITA Exchange™ solution is offered as either an in-house installation or as an ASP-solution:

  • With the in-house solution, DITA Exchange™ will be installed on your own SharePoint 2007 server(s) and run on your normal network.
  • The ASP-solution will be hosted by us and you will be able to access it from any PC with an internet connection (and of course the right password…)

Hi,

I have a couple of questions please.

Does it mean that only a few are eligible for this offer? What is the cost? I don't wish to join more newsletters just to receive information which I might not find any useful.

This technology will sure help many people so I guess I take a chance.

Thanks,
Karl
