It validates for me in Xmetal... I would check out: 1. If you're going to have multiple topics in one file, don't you need to wrap it with the "dita" element?

Sam, You should really upgrade your tool kit instance, if you're really running 1.7 M3. That was a milestone build (a bit more stable than a beta, I suppose).
