General DITA questions

Partslist

We are trying to transform the current XML of our manuals to the DITA structure.

In our documentation we use a so called 'spare parts list', in which each part that can be used in a machine, has a number and a description.

Our manauls for several machines contain some of the parts which are declared in the above mentioned parts list.

In our current XML of the manual, we refer to the parts, declared in the 'spare parts list'.

How can we implement this in a DITA structure?

DITA in Program Files

Hi all,

we are using DITA OT 1.3.1 and when we install it to Program Files directory, we are getting messages:

[DOTX023W][WARN]: Unable to retrieve navtitle from target: 'file.xml'. Make sure the topicref type matches the target, and that the file name and topic id are correct.

[DOTX027W][WARN]: Unable to retrieve linktext from target: 'file.xml'. Make sure the topicref type matches the target, and that the file name and topic id are correct.

Getting started

Hi

I wanted to try DITA in developing the documents. I could not find any helpful source of information for beginners. Can anyone provide me a useful URL for a beginner?

task headings

When naming tasks, a technique I used and liked for a product I worked on was to name the heading “<noun>, <verb phrase>”.

My rationale is that users always know what object they are trying to work with, but they don’t always think with the same verbs in mind as the author. By putting the noun first, the tasks are automatically organized in the TOC by object and not by verb. The reader can then scan the TOC rather than having to read each task heading.
