Using DITA
Difference between referenz and concept?
Hallo,
I read the DITA Architectural and Language Specification and a book about topic orientate writing, but I still have the problem, that I often don’t know if I should write content in a reference or a concept topic. The examples often do not help me because I write documentation for machines and not only for software.
How have you learned that?
One example:
During the machine is running the user have to do some activities. I have a topic with the following content (in a table):
What are inner and outer topics?
Several toolkit build files refer to inner and outer dita topics. For example,
<target name="dita.topics.html" unless="noTopic" if="old.transform" description="Build HTML files from inner and outer dita topics, which will adjust the directory.
Any clue what that means?
Problems finding the right architecture
hi there,
i'm trying to convince our developers and intermediate management to focus on DITA in our next software generation, a web-based application for government administration. the difficulty is: i'm left alone on that task and have no help whatsoever since documentation is seen as very unimportant (but everybody will be complaining in the end when there's no documentation).
Generating CHM: do all embedded files need to be in subfolders?
I've been trying to generate a CHM file which references images in a sibling folder (strictly speaking, a sibling subfolder).
The output HTML is in the folder myfolder/out; each file includes the following image reference:
<img src="../templates/images/logo.jpg">
When I look at the HTML files in a browser, the image appears, but when I open the CHM, it's missing.
Similarly, the CSS I'm using is applied when I view the topics in a browser, but is not applied in the CHM.
Trouble with configuring XMetal for Dita and generating output
Hi,
We’ve just started with a Dita project using XMetal. We’ve been successful with setting up the Dita environment, meaning we’ve been able to run ant all successfully and test the dita installation. But have not been successful with configuring XMetal. Basically not all steps from the client’s style guide went smooth because of the differences between the versions of XMetal.
